If you haven’t read out write-up on day 5, you can do so here: Day 5 [Everest Base Camp] Tengboche to Dingboche

Today will be our second acclimatization day for the trek. The plan will be to hike up to Nagerjun, which is about 5100m a.s.l and then return to Dingboche. We started our day as usual, breakfast without packing and set out on the journey.

“Today’s hike will take about 4 hours on a steep slope. No rush, go slow,” our guide from Nepal Hiking Team instructed. The plan would be to go as much as we can before heading down. The road heading up to Nagerjun is very steep but the higher you climb, the more you see.

It was cloudy on the day we climbed but we managed to see some of the peaks that are surrounding our trail, including Lobuche East (6119m), Lobuche West (6145m), Taboche Peak (6367m), Thamserku (6608m), Kangtega (6685m) and Ama Dablam (6856m). Once you are high enough, you will get to see the view of Periche Valley, where we will be crossing on our way back from Everest Base Camp.

After 2 hours of hiking, we reached a point that gets too cloudy and decided to turn back since there will be no view up the top. Apparently, some of the hikers which made it up to Nagerjun confirmed that and told us that they were disappointed that it was so cloudy. “We can turn back and explore Dingboche,” our guide suggested.

We reached Dingboche around lunch time and had our meal before heading to a neighbouring hotel to catch up with some friends that we met on trek. It’s nice to take half a day off trekking and enjoy some social time for a bit. Day 6 will be a short day but the thought that you are two days away from Everest Base Camp would get you really pumped for the next 2 days to come!

Oh, and something really cool happened at night. The teahouse was full that night and there was an Indian couple who celebrated their 3rd year of marriage here that night. The bought every apple pies and the group started dancing and singing. Not something I expected to happened but it was a really good break from trekking. To that Indian couple, if you are reading this, thank you for your apple pie and I hope you guys stay together forever.
