The Malacca River played a huge role in Melaka’s history. In the past, both the waterway and buildings were not maintained properly. Hence, the waterway was very dirty and the buildings had mass structure deformities. However, the river has undergone a major revamp in recent years. Now, the waterway has been cleaned up and a great deal of effort was taken to preserve and restructure the many historic buildings and bridges along the river. Visitors are able to travel there for not only visiting purposes but also walk or run along the beautiful waterway.
